Request a Ride for Essential Needs

When a driver and vehicle are safely available, HTHS may be able to help with transportation for an essential need such as shelter access, a medical appointment, identification services, benefits, work, or education.
Rides are limited and are not guaranteed. Request transportation as early as possible, preferably at least 24 hours before a scheduled appointment.
Information to Provide
- The purpose of the trip and the name of the destination.
- The appointment date, arrival time, and estimated end time.
- A safe pickup address or clear landmark.
- A reliable way to reach you before the trip.
- The number of riders, including children.
- Mobility devices, service animals, car-seat needs, or other accessibility information.
How the Request Works
- Contact HTHS and ask staff to record the transportation need.
- Staff review the purpose, timing, safety, distance, and available transportation options.
- HTHS contacts available drivers or helps identify another transportation resource.
- A ride exists only after you receive clear confirmation.
Before the Ride
- Bring the documents, identification, medication list, or appointment paperwork you need at the destination.
- Be ready at the agreed pickup time and notify HTHS promptly if plans change.
- Follow seatbelt, child-restraint, safety, and driver instructions.
- Treat volunteer drivers and shared vehicles with respect.
Important Limits
- HTHS transportation is for approved essential needs, not ordinary personal errands.
- Same-day transportation may not be possible.
- HTHS cannot provide ambulance service or emergency medical transportation.
- Weather, vehicle condition, staff or volunteer availability, distance, safety, and scheduling can prevent a trip.
- HTHS may refer you to another transportation provider instead of providing the ride directly.
Emergency: Call 911 for an emergency. Do not request emergency transportation through this service.
