First-Time Visitor: Start Here
Reviewed Aug 14, 2026
Welcome to Help The Homeless - Somerset. A first visit begins with a respectful conversation about what you need today, what may require follow-up, and which HTHS or community resources may be available.
Call before traveling when possible. Hours, staffing, supplies, and individual services may change because of weather, holidays, emergencies, or limited availability.
What Happens During a First Visit
- Tell staff that this is your first visit.
- Describe the most important need or goal in your own words.
- Staff may ask brief questions to understand household, safety, and service needs.
- An Interaction or Help Request may be created so assistance and follow-up can be recorded.
- Staff explain what HTHS can provide, what is unavailable, and which referrals may help.
Bring What You Have
- Identification, notices, forms, appointment information, or referral paperwork, if available.
- A safe telephone number, email address, or other way to receive follow-up, if you have one.
- Names and ages of household members when relevant to the request.
- Information about transportation, accessibility, language, or communication needs.
You do not need to have every document before asking what help may be available.
Your Privacy and Choices
- Share only the information needed to understand the request.
- Ask why information is needed when you are unsure.
- Do not place Social Security numbers, passwords, identity-document images, or detailed medical information in public feedback.
- Tell staff when a question is difficult, sensitive, or not understood.
Arriving Safely and Respectfully
Please use designated public entrances and access paths. Respect posted private-property signs at neighboring facilities, remain on HTHS property when visiting the Resource Center, and follow staff directions. This protects visitors, neighbors, and continued access to the Resource Center.
HTHS Self-Service
Use this resource as part of a personal Help Plan
Save it with an Interaction, keep notes for yourself, report what happened, and request follow-up only when needed.
